Nothing but VGM remixes?

I hope to god that you actually did these remixes, and not just grab a MIDI and rip them off...

Meh, can't really review the track too much if that is what you did. The only thing I'm going to comment on is how nice the synths sounded, but they were too quiet at times. There was also a slight amount of distrotion in the song due to too much resonance, might want to compress the entire track. The drum work was also too repetitive, you should add a lot more diversity to it.

You have potential, just write your own stuff and work on the drums and mastering a bit. Good work.
Keep it up.

Yeah, I've been thinking about doing original work. I have if you check the bottom of my audio page.

POOF

This review spell sure is handy, eh?

I like the theory you used in the beginning. Its dark... but its not. You know? I thought that the 4th bar kind of bugged me a bit, it isn't offtune, but it just sounds kind of awkward with the wooden bell melody.

The song is well written, the only part I didn't really like is the percussion. Its nice to have a hi hat going when you hit the kick drum, but it would sound so much more solid if you had a steady 8th note hi hat going in the backround or something.

Good work, I liked the crash/melody breaks you threw in :)

Keep it up!

itsameyayo responds:

Magic successful! You gained 50 experience points in Magic!!!

-Anyways, percussion, as I am one, can be my weakest link, which is really funny to me in a sense, lol.

Oh well, thanks for the "magical" review!!!

Hey man

Thanks for the review you dropped me.

This song is good, I like the big 'wap' bassline. The only thing I didnt really like is when you brought in the drums... they sounded too stuttery, you know?
The hats seem to cut out whenever a drum hits, or they do a 64th note glitch pattern or something... sounds kind of unfinished.

Other than that, this song could use some better samples and some EQing, but the song is good. You have lots of potential :)

Good work, keep it up!

wiselinden responds:

Thanks for the review.

yeah I have very limited resources and samples.
I'm glad you like the bass.
I might work on the hi hat aswell

thanks again

Everything that needs to be said

has already been said many times. So I'll just kind of sum it up... try to keep the song in one general mood. The beginnign was dity, the melody was happy. Didn't really fit in my opinion. It was good, but didn't fit.
The little wind like sound you had at the beignning kind of like, was offtune a bit. Maybe if you make the same tune as the bassline? Maybe that'll sound better.

Overall, pretty good work, but I dislike the FL sounds.

itsameyayo responds:

I can see, lol. I'm gonna have to look for a cheap synth maker or something, that's the only thing holding me back obviously. Thanks for the review!

Funky.

No shit, eh? :D

The E-piano beginning was fucking great. I knew it could buildup to something. The vocals were good, the vocals slight radio like distortion in the beginning added a shit load to the track.

When you broke in the drums, I was like, hell, I like those drums. At that time though, you should ahve broke in that funky bassline you brought in later. Just to add a tad bit more flavor.

Overall...

Great singing. No flaws. The iano parts were great, and the drum work was excellent. A little repetitive, but excellent.
The arrangment was also awesome.

I see that you used the huge reverb build on the drums to end it off.... I also use that trick QUITE a bit :)

Keep it up! This kicked my ass over and over again while I listened to it... in a good way :P

-zenon-

NeuFunk responds:

<3 rhodes pianos :)

I sort of borrowed the idea of radio distortion from Beck, whome both of us are a huge fan of.

For a while there I was wondering what 'iano parts' meant, but then I realised you meant 'piano' :P

I hope you enjoyed the ass-kicking!

Nice.

Speedmetal showed me this without the vocals, and it still sounded sweet. With vocals = 2X better.

Awesome work you guys, I am impressed.

Rickbass21 responds:

Thanks Zenon. I'm glad you like this cover version.

Hmmm...

Thanks for leaving me a review, first off.

There are a few basic rules of drum n bass, like, say, a 4x4 kick is generally not aloud (because then it morphs into generic techno sounds) and the tempo in this song is really really slow... im guessing around 140.
Average tempo for drum n bass is 160-240. Any slower, and it loses the 'drum n bass' feel.

Instead of a 4x4 kick, add it on different timings, to add more groove.

Like, say, the kick could hit on the first beat, the snare on the second, then half a beat before the second snare hit on beat 4, you could have a kick.

Oh, and the bass synth really does need some bass... its so high ended. To do that, put it on an FX channel, then open up the 'parametric EQ' FX, then the knobs on the far left on the EQ, turn those up. The last two to the left.

Other than that, I hear a hell of a lot of protential. You just need to clean things up a bit.

Good work.

-zenon-

Lol, bouncy.

I get the obvious '16 bit' feel from it. I don't get the 'ska' feel, though... its too happy and fast. Maybe if it was slower, and with better samples?

This song is actually very well written, so your only problem is the tempo, and your quality of the samples.

Good work, but its not something I'd listen to on my free time.

-zenon-

attemptedperfection responds:

Thank you muchly for the feedback;
I'll have to see what I can do to make it more ska-sounding... I had actually thought it was a bit too slow, but maybe I was thinking in the wrong direction... As for the samples, I was actually surprised that they came out as well as they did (I had low expectations...), but maybe I can adjust some effects and whatnot to make them sound more realistic...
Thanks again for the review!

Beautiful. This is either some good old harmonizer tricks, or you just sung it over each other.

You took something humorous, and made it serious and dramatic sounding :)

Great work.

-zenon-

LimblessAvenger responds:

yeah, I sang tracks over each other. I don't know about "serious and dramatic," but I had much fun making this. Thanks for the awexome review. Check out my other stuff too!

Good to see you submitting again.

Even though I've already heard this before, you posted a low quality demo of it on the forum, and I still think that this is nothing more than 'alright'.

The diversity is amazing. Kudos there, I can see the obvious effort. But, as for the song itself, its kinda... eh. I don't know, theres something missing, but I can't point it out.

So I'll just say that its good, and you should keep it up.
