PERVOK's News

Posted by PERVOK - September 12th, 2010

After I attended a 3 day long rave, I heard lots of strange stuff. Good stuff, slow stuff, heavy stuff, not-so-good stuff (but it was played by people on keyboards and electric drumsets so people thought it was good) and of course, it inspired me. I couldn't decide on any genre to write (of course) but I felt way more compelled to... not add crazy melodies and base my entire songs around them. I'm not saying they aren't there, they just aren't there all the time.

Kitty Carcass
This is just me trying to get back into the dnb vibe. No melody, just drums and bass. The way it should be :)
Brutal Beauty
A little slick dubstep track that I tossed together. Very sexy hi hat rhythms, with a short little melody just to make it sound pretty.
Galactic Apes
I heard a lotta cool goa/psy trance spun while I was there as well. Now truly, that made my life complete. So I just had to make some dark, brooding goa trance with fucked up effects. I die for the last part at 3:49, personally :)
Smektro
An attempt at hard electro, but I think I could do a lot better for the genre I'm going for. Nice swung rhythms make for a sexy, boppy tune.
Scatterbrain
I just wanted to make a psytrance song in my old style, with more of a melody behind it. I made it extremely quickly, so I think the mastering is quite off. But I really enjoy the main bodies of the track; seeing how everything ends up piecing together at the end.
Apartment
My girlfriend actually named this one; I told her to name it and that it was a house track. And she said apartment. So apartment music it is. I built some different samples 'n stuff so I just wanted to get a really solid tune out, and I think I accomplished it :)

I will continue to poop out music as life goes by, I hope you all enjoy ze toonz.

Recently I've been stricken with the dubstep bug, I guess you could say. The dirtier the better, and it seems with the title "dirty" you get to play with some pretty fuckin' interesting sounds.

Deathly Tranquil
Intended to be filthy, but the addition of the introduction and such really changed the pace of the entire track. A personal favorite because of 4:03 and on.

Transcendental Highway
This song was kind of a mixture of house/dubstep, entirely because of the introduction. A lot of work was put into the filter automation on the bass synth so I'm quite happy with how the rhythm sounds but as for the synth I think I could have found something a little more crunchy. Still a good song; worth a listen because of the melody at 3:07 :)

Energy Hungry
Ok, this one is simply the product of listening to really trippy tech house, haha. But of course my head is stuck in the half-time groove, so that's how this one turned out. I didn't really focus so much on the modulation of the bass in this song, but instead what kind of filters were being used. A few different synths were created just for the bass in this song, just for the different tones. If you don't like the outro... (3:00 til the end) well yeah it sounds all busy and high-ended, but it signifies the hunger for energy at the end of the song.

Spacial Mindage and Slip Into Torment
The reason why these two are mentioned together is because they kind of had the same purpose; add a lot of chill-as-fuck ambience but at the same time be durty as an asshole. In a good way, I guess. I think I achieved it, but I think you all should take a listen and see for yourself :)

So, I'm not really sure if any of you really care anymore, but I guess here's a mini-update as to what I've been up to.

I've been moving around from house to house, trying to deal with life as a young adult (looking for work, finding work, moving, repeat) and the constant search for the internet, heh. I did manage to find a few friends nice enough to let me install Reason 3.0 on their computers so I can arrange some music to retain some sanity :) The really shitty thing though, is that of course I don't have my samples on their computers. I'm trying to make due with just creativity, and it still manages to sound half decent. That's why I've been writing my pieces over either really short stints of times or over long, drawn out periods. 'Cause I only get a chance to write music whenever I'm visiting my old roomates house. Life is hard, but as always, I'll take it as it comes.

Have a gooder Newgrounds, and enjoy ze tunes!

Because I don't want you fuckers to download it >:(

But seriously though, I've been working on a lot of nifty little tracks in the past while. This is the first of 5 songs that will be completed soon... and as soon as those are done, sadly you guys won't be able to hear them unless things go smoothly. So go to www.myspace.com/psyzenon and check out the track "Tricks"... and listen to how the bass plays tricks on you ;)

In this song I played with the idea of a "wob" bassline; but I originally took ideas from songs like the dance remix of "day and night" and shit like that. But with a little more fucking around with the modulation on the bass, I managed to create some nice, punchy rhythms. I was going to originally just make it a pumpin' house track, but I ended up adding melodies and other shit and well... now I have a fully arranged 5 minute long house track.

I hope you all enjoy, and if you wanna leave a comment on the song, either just leave a comment here or add me up on Myspace! Keep it easy Newgrounds;

And I also got myself a decent sound system (don't ask me what it is, it's just better than computer speakers) so I'll be having fun writing new tunes... and now I'll actually be able to share them with you guys again! Jeepers.

Well, you guys have a fine day.

And my computer's hard drive just went ka-poot. So needless to say, I won't be updating anything until I make some money. I did manage to finish a few songs, but now I have to get the files off my fucked computer.

So wish me luck, peace;

So I finished my first free album a day or two ago, and I dub it EAZ :) If you wanna read about it, check out this thread in the AF Lounge :) I know that it's only five songs, but I actually busted my fucking ass a million times over trying to make these songs sound great. Plus I spent a little over a year writing them :( So check it out, and I hope you all enjoy!

Finally, after years of failed projects, bad ideas, good ideas, random inspiration spurs out of the middle of no where and countless cases of writers block... I finally submit 600 pieces to the audio portal. So if anything, just give the 600th song a listen. I hope you guys enjoy it!

I understand that this post is rather late, just bear with me.

August 13th: - Glowing Reaper

The first song that I'd like to introduce is called Glowing Reaper. I don't know, the reasoning for the name is that I could see someone being hacked apart with a glowing scythe with this song in the background. Plus the melody sounds pretty fucked up, so I thought that it fit pretty well actually.

The entire song was built around the beat that starts for eight measures at 0:50. The willy wonka addition was totally random, and found it accidentally on the internet while I was trying to think of something to do for the build up. Well damn, I think it worked out pretty good. I haven't played with sidechaining in forever either, so this was doing a new song in an old way... well, for me that is :)

Die-Hilation

I said that I was gonna make a post about this song when I submitted it, but I was in a hurry so I couldn't do too much of anything! I hope I remember what I was going to say.

At work a while ago, they had an internet radio thingy going (I'm a janitor at a grocery store) and they started playing this really lame song. Well, at least at the time I thought it was lame. It was like they had taken house music and pooped on it, since the beats were kind of weak and of course, there's those pop vocals overtop of everything. But the bassline... A square wave, distorted, and modulated on the filter frequency and it was warbling around and I loved it! Had that song in my head for a while, and then I finally said, "you know Jadan you should probably be writing these ideas down." So I slapped myself in the forehead, put down the bassline and the drums and didn't even WORK on the song for another 2 or 3 months. Weird effects got added, people started to like the sound, and here is the end result. And I dunno why, but that bassline... can't get enough of it.

Slowly Racing

So like I said in the song description, this song is basically based off of one of Tiesto's dance mixes on Sirius radio. I usually listen to the Area channel or something, they generally play good quality house or something; occasionally it's shitty or way experimental in the wrong way, but usually not. So in this song, they played a bit of the melody. And like most house, tracks, I expected that same 2 bar melody with only slight alterations. As the song got better, I started to fill in the cliche' notes in my head. You know, trying to guess what notes will go next.

The song kept playing, and whaddaya know... he just kept adding to it, and next thing you know, I'm listening to an epic dance mix with like, a 16 bar melody or even longer!? Cool! I really liked the sound, and as soon as I turned that radio off and came home I slapped the part that plays at 1:10 and built the entire song around that.

I apologize if you don't like slow music! Give the whole thing a listen though, I personally think it's worth at least one :)

Friday, June 26th: Broken Lightbulb

This song has been the instrument of my confusion for a long time; procrastination was also rampant in the creation of this piece. I always got stuck, couldn't find different things to add, but eventually got somewhat of a finished project completed. Honestly, I know it could be better quality and music wise, but the lyrics... after working on this song for quite a while, the lyrics kinda... attach to you. Feels like they mean more than they did before (which if you read them, will realize that they mean nothing at all). I even wrote a pretty slick synth solo at the end; I tried to make this song sound very old-school psychedelic.

In other news, I've been really fucking inactive; school's done, my birthday was three days ago, and now today is grad... well, I guess the only real thing I can say is that I hope I don't fall down the stairs!
