I understand that this post is rather late, just bear with me.
August 13th: - Glowing Reaper
The first song that I'd like to introduce is called Glowing Reaper. I don't know, the reasoning for the name is that I could see someone being hacked apart with a glowing scythe with this song in the background. Plus the melody sounds pretty fucked up, so I thought that it fit pretty well actually.
The entire song was built around the beat that starts for eight measures at 0:50. The willy wonka addition was totally random, and found it accidentally on the internet while I was trying to think of something to do for the build up. Well damn, I think it worked out pretty good. I haven't played with sidechaining in forever either, so this was doing a new song in an old way... well, for me that is :)
I said that I was gonna make a post about this song when I submitted it, but I was in a hurry so I couldn't do too much of anything! I hope I remember what I was going to say.
At work a while ago, they had an internet radio thingy going (I'm a janitor at a grocery store) and they started playing this really lame song. Well, at least at the time I thought it was lame. It was like they had taken house music and pooped on it, since the beats were kind of weak and of course, there's those pop vocals overtop of everything. But the bassline... A square wave, distorted, and modulated on the filter frequency and it was warbling around and I loved it! Had that song in my head for a while, and then I finally said, "you know Jadan you should probably be writing these ideas down." So I slapped myself in the forehead, put down the bassline and the drums and didn't even WORK on the song for another 2 or 3 months. Weird effects got added, people started to like the sound, and here is the end result. And I dunno why, but that bassline... can't get enough of it.
So like I said in the song description, this song is basically based off of one of Tiesto's dance mixes on Sirius radio. I usually listen to the Area channel or something, they generally play good quality house or something; occasionally it's shitty or way experimental in the wrong way, but usually not. So in this song, they played a bit of the melody. And like most house, tracks, I expected that same 2 bar melody with only slight alterations. As the song got better, I started to fill in the cliche' notes in my head. You know, trying to guess what notes will go next.
The song kept playing, and whaddaya know... he just kept adding to it, and next thing you know, I'm listening to an epic dance mix with like, a 16 bar melody or even longer!? Cool! I really liked the sound, and as soon as I turned that radio off and came home I slapped the part that plays at 1:10 and built the entire song around that.
I apologize if you don't like slow music! Give the whole thing a listen though, I personally think it's worth at least one :)
