FL presets?

:(
I don't like it when people use FL presets in their music... I strongly dislike it, actually. Because then you don't have your own individual sound, you have someone elses. Try to get some VSTs and some samples, and EQ and use those instead.

When the acid/guitar break came in, I'd like to hear more guitar and less acid. Turn that acid synth from sytrus down a bit, that guitar sounds like it has potential.

The breaks in and out from the break downs and the melodies aren't smooth enough. Its like, BAM, now theres a melody. Donate some time to making complex break downs into a well arranged break in, so that the listening experience can be more enjoyable :)

I don't think I hear a compressor on the main mixer channel... thats almost a necessity. Just throw a compressor on the master FX channel, and if it sounds really badly compressed, then fiddle with the knobs until you know what they do, or just read the tutorial.

Good work, but DAMN I hate those samples...

Um i hear you i think u may be rating the wrong song but whatever Space classical may be wut your looking for. I don't particularily care if you hate the samples my public however they still like it i'll try to udillize different original samples next time Thx for hitting me backand ill see u around the BBS

You are a whore.

Ghey luff. Start writing some original tracks soon, you pewp.

I smell chicken. Go fetch it.

Good, but...

...try not to use such cheap leads. The generic saws you use are colliding with each other (the lead and your bassline) and need to be a changed a bit. Make the bass actually bassy, and make the lead 'phatter'. I have no problem with the percussion or the sine wave bells.

Good work, keep it up.

Yeah, I admit to having trouble with that, I couldnt find anything useful.

You don't want sympathy?

Too freakin bad :)

Why sad, though? This piece isn't THAT bad. Its slow, and very nice and guitarist like. It would have been nice if you mastered it a little more to the higher end of the frequencies, and added a VERY slight delay and a soft reverb, to cradle the song, or so it seems.

Add a soft drum kick with a ride, and a soft string melody, and this song would be a winner.

Keep it up, trust me, I appreciate anything that needs to be a appreciated in the portal :)

SpamWarrior responds:

Ta mate, nice to know its not an ear bleedingly bad melody. I didnt master it all, nothing, no effects whatsoever.
I'm sad cos i'm poorly n have to go hospital for a scan, n if i'd been more sober i would've gone to the docs sooner, instead of just blamin my pains on being pissed up. Hardcore stupidity, suits me to a t really.

Ta for the review mate, if i ever write anything and you happen to want to use it/steal it, go right ahead, i havent got the energy for full tracks atm.

Loops are good cause

then I can critize the hell out of them and then the really full song will rock my socks to the max. :D

Well, I hope you make a full song outta this. This has damn good potential.

For the guitar, I like it, don't change it. I'm not a guitarist (well, not a good one) so if it sounds good to me, I don't think you shold change it :P

The drums though, that I can help with. I hera a considerable amount of distortion on the kick drum, but none on the crashes, snare, or hi hat? Heres a good idea... do what Jarrdyn does. Trust me, its dirty :D Nearly beats any kind of distortion.

But the entire kit on one channel, then put a compressor on that channel JUST for the drums. Now, make it loud and full of bass, (EQing it would be a smart move) then turn up the gain on the compressor and then make sure that the compressor isn't letting go. It'll sound so compressed and sirty, trust me, as Jarrdyn says 'compression makes drums sound so fucking brutal'. And that is without one word of a lie. Trust me, I've tried it :D

Good work, and you should seriously make this into a full song. It'd do you good :)

Keep it up!

I understand what you mean, except you would be talking about specific software, that I may not have. But really appreciate the kick ass review. I may seek you out for help with drums on my next track! Thanks again man!

Good to see effort put into tracks.

I don't care if it shows or not, your still getting 10 for effort.

Lets start from the top.

The piano was very plain, and should be mastered to a higher frequncy so that it stands out as being a 'melody'. If this means that you need to turn it down, just lessen the amount that it plays, so be it. It would also be great if you threw on a reverb, just so it sounds a little more full.

I like great transitions, so I think I'll be picking on you for that :P The song is well thought out, and the effort DOES show. Just the transitions need work. The first break in, with the drums, was a simple rev crash into the drums. I can't recall if there was a crash, but if there wasn't add one. And also add a good old drum break in, like a simple 16th note roll on the last beat, that slightly fades in. It gives the listeners a heads up, and makes listening much more pleasureable.

The song is good in volume, but I hear some slight distortion in spots. If you don't have a compressor on the main master channel, put one on. It will save the slightest amount of clippage.

Holy shit I think the song just looped. I didn't even freaking notice. How the fuck do you get such clean loops...? Amazing. Anywho...

I think, so the song has more of a sense of rythym, you should turn the strings down a tad, they seem to dominate the song, even over the soft synth melody. Remember, if you work hard on a particular part in the song, it doesn't nessescarily need to be loud. The drums kick should be louder, or a higher frequency (just so it cuts through the song a bit more) and the snare could also be a slightly higher freuqncy, (high freuqncies cut through mid and low range frequencies, so if you want someting to be louder, EQ it higher.)Make use of reverb on the drums. It would make them sound nice and purty :)

Good work, you keep on getting better all the time.

Keep it up!

PS: Also, thank you for the review you dropped me. Its much appreciated :D

LoneEagle responds:

Arrrgh! I'm such a newbie... what the hell is a reverb and what does it mean?
Haha seriously though all those really easy terms that i don't know crap about :(

The distortion is because i put way to much base and because i have one bassline in the left speaker and another different bassline in the right speaker... too much bass. What the crap how do i set a compressor on the main channel.. i use fruity loops 5. I feel like i am doing the job with only half of the tools.

This song does not loop :D It simply starts as it ends so you would hear the same piano melody twice in a row.

Do you use reason... and if so are all these little tweaks that you talk about easy to make? Reverb and high frequency. Hmm... I am a very "amateur"-ish guy just making music for fun but i will try to look for what you mention i suppose i will be in the "FL Studio how to topic" reading for a while...

Thanks for the review and for saying that i'm improving, it is greatly appreciated.

P.S. You're welcom, you keep on making the good music too :D

Nothing but VGM remixes?

I hope to god that you actually did these remixes, and not just grab a MIDI and rip them off...

Meh, can't really review the track too much if that is what you did. The only thing I'm going to comment on is how nice the synths sounded, but they were too quiet at times. There was also a slight amount of distrotion in the song due to too much resonance, might want to compress the entire track. The drum work was also too repetitive, you should add a lot more diversity to it.

You have potential, just write your own stuff and work on the drums and mastering a bit. Good work.
Keep it up.

TheSuitcase responds:

Yeah, I've been thinking about doing original work. I have if you check the bottom of my audio page.

POOF

This review spell sure is handy, eh?

I like the theory you used in the beginning. Its dark... but its not. You know? I thought that the 4th bar kind of bugged me a bit, it isn't offtune, but it just sounds kind of awkward with the wooden bell melody.

The song is well written, the only part I didn't really like is the percussion. Its nice to have a hi hat going when you hit the kick drum, but it would sound so much more solid if you had a steady 8th note hi hat going in the backround or something.

Good work, I liked the crash/melody breaks you threw in :)

Keep it up!

itsameyayo responds:

Magic successful! You gained 50 experience points in Magic!!!

-Anyways, percussion, as I am one, can be my weakest link, which is really funny to me in a sense, lol.

Oh well, thanks for the "magical" review!!!

Hey man

Thanks for the review you dropped me.

This song is good, I like the big 'wap' bassline. The only thing I didnt really like is when you brought in the drums... they sounded too stuttery, you know?
The hats seem to cut out whenever a drum hits, or they do a 64th note glitch pattern or something... sounds kind of unfinished.

Other than that, this song could use some better samples and some EQing, but the song is good. You have lots of potential :)

Good work, keep it up!

wiselinden responds:

Thanks for the review.

yeah I have very limited resources and samples.
I'm glad you like the bass.
I might work on the hi hat aswell

thanks again

Everything that needs to be said

has already been said many times. So I'll just kind of sum it up... try to keep the song in one general mood. The beginnign was dity, the melody was happy. Didn't really fit in my opinion. It was good, but didn't fit.
The little wind like sound you had at the beignning kind of like, was offtune a bit. Maybe if you make the same tune as the bassline? Maybe that'll sound better.

Overall, pretty good work, but I dislike the FL sounds.

itsameyayo responds:

I can see, lol. I'm gonna have to look for a cheap synth maker or something, that's the only thing holding me back obviously. Thanks for the review!
